| SDek Rail - Installation of Blocking for Post Anchor Locations - if applicable | |
![]() |
|
| If your deck framing involves a single perimeter boxing
joist then we recommend you install blocking in all post anchor locations. This procedure is applicable for all deck surfaces
other then concrete including sheet vinyl, roll or spray-on membranes, composite decking or traditional wood planks. In a typical scenario, some of the post anchor screws may only pass through the deck surface material and remain exposed when looking from underneath as the circled area in the photo shows. |

| Cut a block from scrap 2 x 4, 2 x 6 or composite material
to the width between floor joists in this area. Back out the screws until they are just above the underside material. Do not back them completely out. Apply
construction adhesive to the block, hold up into position and re-secure these screws until they bite tightly into the solid material. Blocking should always be installed on the flat or width side - not the edge or height side. This will ensure that any loading force on the railings will transfer to a larger area under the deck and maximize overall frame strength. |
