Step 17: Continue to squeeze the top rail until you feel it snap
along the entire piece. You may need to move your hands from deck side to outside as you work along the
length of the material. Snap approx. 4-5 inches at a time until finished. Always work from one end for each section of top rail you install. |
 |
Step 18: A top rail sleeve, when needed, is installed to hide or
cover over any butt joints along a given run. This component does not contribute to frame strength. However, hot and cold weather may cause the
butt joint, even though tight when initially installed, to open up so the sleeve serves to hide this situation. Once one top rail is installed,
slide the sleeve on and over this piece. Install the second piece of top rail. Then apply a thin bead of clear sillicone on the 2nd piece and gently slide
the sleeve until it is half way over both. When the sillicone cures, it will hold the sleeve in place. |
 |
Step 19: Install the top rail, corner dress
caps. Using your drill, remove the painted screws from under the cap, place over the top rails and secure from under the anchor rail using 4 - # 10 x 5/8"
hex head drill-x. Both top rail end cuts should be tucked under the dress caps edge by approx. 1/4 of an inch when the cap is seated. Snug tight is all
you need for these securing screws. |
 |
Step 20: There are two methods to secure an end cap. To secure
using the screws, extend your anchor and top rails past the backside of the end post by 1-3/4". On the top rail, make a mark at 1" from the end
cut. From this line, make a second set of marks 5/16" forward and backward. Cut this material out using a miter saw being careful not to cut down the top
rail sides walls. Install the top rail. Using a 1/4" bit, drill out 2 holes centered both in the slot
and along the inside set of line grooves on the anchor rail. Remove the screws from the end cap and secure. For a flush mount install, or second method, cut
the anchor and top rails flush with the end post and slot as described earlier. Remove screws and apply sillicone to the under side of the end cap and
secure down onto the top rail. |
