Step 1: Re: End or intermediate post anchor orientation. Looking at the six
holes along the raised side portion of the anchors, one hole side is visibly larger then the other. You should position all anchors on the
deck with the larger holes facing in the same direction - typically your writing hand or drill hand. When securing the post to the anchor, the screws
should always be sent through the larger holes first. This enables the smaller holes to grip the end of the screw tip, acting as a built-in lock
nut. End or intermediate post anchor foot print is 3.25 x 1.5 inches. |
 |
Step 2: Re: Corner post anchor orientation. The corner post anchor
has 3 raised portions, 1 single prong and 2 that are side by side. Always face the 2 side by side prongs along the deck run. When the post
is sleeved down over the anchor, this face will remain open and will be closed off later by the post face plate. For a left side deck corner, we
typically face this anchor to the right for right handed securing of the post. For a right side deck corner the anchor is rotated 1/4 turn so that the 2
side by side prongs would now face the house. The 2 side by side prongs should never face outside the deck runs. Corner post anchor foot print is
3.25 x 3.25 inches. |
 |
Step 3: Once you understand the correct orientation
of these components, you are ready to perform your layout and install all of the post anchors. For all self-install projects, we will supply you with a
layout sheet showing how many anchors are required for each deck run. Establish an equal distance between each anchor. It is not imparative that
the anchors are an exact amount apart - close enough is acceptable. Place anchors over the supplied rubber gaskets, (if one is required for a water-proof
surface), and secure to deck surface using 6 - # 12 x 2-1/2" screws. You should use a rafter square as shown in step 1 to ensure the anchors remain square
to the deck edge during installation. |
 |
Step 4: When you receive your posts, they may have
a black top clip already seated inside as shown in the photo or supplied with your hardware. The top clips purpose is to provide a flat mounting surface
that will later accept the securing screws for the top rail assembly. Like the post anchors, the top clips also have a larger hole side which should be
facing towards the open side of the post. Position the clip so that it is flush with the top edge of the post and secure
with 2 - # 10 x 5/8 drill-x screws. Corner post top clips are larger in size but secured using the same procedure. |
